Sconiers' interview with Associated Press journalist Wes Gallagher regarding his August 21, 1942 mission. Sconiers, a Florida bombardier who washed out of flying school and had never flown a B-17, was nationally reported as having the nerve, skill, resourcefulness, and courage to bring the Flying Fortress Johnny Reb safely home after the pilot had been gravely wounded and the co-pilot killed on the raid over Rouen.
